HISTORY

The MacLean clan has many stories of original. Possibly the ancestor of this clan was Gilleain-na-Tuaighe, Gillian of the Battle Axe, a descendant of the Kinds of Dalriada. THe headless horseman ghost is said to be the murdered Eachin, the son of Iain ‘The Toothless’ MacLaine of Loch Buie, who rides to announce the forthcoming death of the MacLaine Chieftain of Lochbuie.

The MacLean of Duart tartan is mostly a bright red with pale green and blue with white and pale yellow stripes.
