HISTORY

The Thomson family lived in Strathclyde, and the name comes from the ancient name Thomas (twin). The Thomson clan, is a sept under clan MacThomas. The MacThomas clan is unusual in that may of the members do not use the name MacThomas, using one of the many sept names. For example: Comb, McColm, Thom, Thomas, and Thomson. The clan is descended from Thomas, Tomaigh Mor, a Gaelic speaking Highlander in the 15th century and grandson of William MacKintosh, 7th Chief of Clan MacKintosh.

The Thomson tartan is a pale warm 2 tone brown with red.
